Evangelistic Event

August 12, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Thanks so much for your prayers for our three mission teams over the past three weeks.  God has blessed each one of the teams and their ministries here!

Several people have accepted the Lord.  Please pray for us as we follow up with them!

I met a lady at the park who is a Christian and is interested in being trained with Training for Trainers (T4T).  She also has friends who want to be trained.  Please pray for me as we work out the details of that discipleship group!

Dan and I will begin training our Church members in T4T on August 20th.  Please pray that many of them will participate and go on to train others to share their faith!

The boys and Dan start school on Monday, August 14th.  Please be in prayer for Dan as he tries to get many things done before school starts.  Please also pray for the boys as they start their next year of school.  Zachary will be in 3rd Grade and Joshua will be starting First Grade.

TONIGHT, August 12th, we will be having a big evangelistic event at a local auditorium.  The team from Tainan has been inviting people to come out all week.  Please pray that the weather will be good (not raining) so that people will not be hindered by the weather.  Also pray that many people will come to find out about our Lord Jesus Christ and how much He loves them!

TOMORROW, August 13th, we will be having worship out at our local park.  Please be in prayer for good weather (no rain) and for many people to come and hear God’s word and to respond by accepting Him!

Thank you for remembering us to the Father!

burning money

No, I’m not talking about the kind that burns a hole in your back pocket. It’s much more serious than that.

Hokkien people burn “spirit money” (also called “ghost money” or “paper money”). They burn it believing that it is going to their ancestors who can then use the money to buy things in the spirit world. Twice a month, I can see people in my neighborhood burning money to the spirits.

Right now, it is the middle of Ghost Month, so there is even more burning of paper money than normal. Ghost Month is a month where the Hokkien (and other people groups across Asia) believe that the gates of Hades are opened and the spirits allowed to roam free on earth. While the ghosts roam the land of the living, the living must appease them by offering them food, gifts, and money. Moreover, the living are scared and try to take precautions against avoiding evil–they will not move to new houses, will not marry, will not make any major purchases, and will not go swimming or take part in other “dangerous sports.”

Please pray for the Hokkien People. Oh how they need to be set free from the lies and the fear that binds them!

In Christ Alone,
amanda

I would like to introduce you to three new Hokkien Harvest team members—Eric Katzung, Julie Theobald, and Rachel Gilfillan. They will be our first three Missionary Plus! team members and will be arriving on Friday, August 11 in Taipei. Chris will be going up to meet them at the airport. They will be in Taiwan for at least a year doing ministry while supporting themselves through English teaching.

Please pray for them as they transition to live in Taiwan,
Mike Miller
